Kelley Mack, ‘The Walking Dead’ Star Gone Forever
Remembering Kelley Mack: A Bright Light from The Walking Dead
It’s one of those pieces of news that hits unexpectedly hard: Kelley Mack, the talented actress best known for her role as Addy in season 9 of The Walking Dead, has passed away at just 33.
To fans of the post-apocalyptic series, Kelley brought strength, empathy, and grit to a world overrun by the undead. But behind the camera, she was far more than just a face on screen, she was a warm, vibrant soul whose passion for storytelling lit up every set she stepped on.
Kelley, born Kelley Klebenow, died peacefully in her hometown of Cincinnati after battling glioma, a rare and aggressive tumor of the brain and central nervous system. Her family, in a heartfelt post on CaringBridge, said it best: “Such a bright, fervent light has transitioned to the beyond, where we all eventually must go.” Her passing was confirmed with deep sorrow on her official Instagram page, accompanied by a touching photo that captured the gentle but powerful energy she carried.
It didn’t take long for the tributes to flood in.
“What an incredible human,” wrote Alanna Masterson, Kelley’s Walking Dead co-star. “So proud to have fought alongside her in our final episode together.” And that’s what many who worked with Kelley say, that she wasn’t just talented, but real. A grounded, compassionate presence in an often chaotic industry.
Her career was as inspiring as it was diverse. Kelley held 35 actress credits and 5 producer credits, not bad for someone who started her creative journey with a simple video camera gifted on a childhood birthday. From there, she grew into a storyteller with a sharp eye and a kind heart. Whether it was playing Penelope Jacobs in Chicago Med, appearing on FOX’s 9-1-1, or lighting up screens in commercials for Dr. Pepper, Dairy Queen, Ross, and Chick-fil-A, Kelley brought authenticity to everything she touched.
Beyond acting, her voice-over and commercial work showcased her range. But even more striking than her résumé was the energy she brought to every room. According to her family, Kelley was known for her “warmth, creativity, and unwavering support for those around her.” That’s a legacy not every performer gets to leave behind.
She grew up in Illinois and graduated from Hinsdale Central High School before pursuing her passion at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts in California. She earned her bachelor’s degree in cinematography, no surprise for someone who loved storytelling from such a young age. She wasn’t just acting in front of the camera, she was also deeply interested in the art behind it.
Kelley leaves behind a grieving but proud family: her parents Kristen and Lindsay Klebenow, her siblings Kathryn and Parker, her grandparents Lois and Larry Klebenow, and her loving boyfriend, Logan Lanier. And of course, she leaves behind the fans and friends whose lives she touched both on and off screen. “Kelley’s legacy will live on through her contributions to film and television, and in the hearts of those who loved her,” her family shared. “She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her talent, kindness, and vibrant spirit.”
In a world so focused on fleeting fame and fast moments, Kelley Mack was a quiet force, steady, sincere, and genuine. Her light may have gone out far too soon, but it burned brightly while it lasted, leaving an imprint that won’t fade anytime soon.
Rest in peace, Kelley. You fought your battles with courage, love, smiles, care, and left the stage with grace. And for that, the world is better.
